Not syncing syncing with dropbox

Recently got iPad Flat Out and added scrivener. In trying to set up so can use iPad to write with as well as my PC.

Tried to open work in process file in Dropbox from PC version of story can not open it on ipad from Dropbox. When create writing project on the iPad and load to Dropbox will not open on PC.

In both instances the file has been saved to dropbox-apps-scrivener.

Can open the Dropbox work in process folder from Dropbox on the PC.

Sure it is something I am not doing. After 2+ years on Windows version of scrivener the iPad version is confusing. Think will be ok after get into being able to use it

How did you set up Dropbox access in iOS Scrivener? Did you do it as described in the built in tutorial?

What do you mean by “can not open it”? Can you see it on your iPad, but it refuses to open? Is it just not listed there?

Do you know the exact folder on your PC where your WiP is located?

Can no see the orignal file from pc on ipad and can not see the file created on ipad when look for it on pc.

In Dropbox original file shows green synced arrow. The file created on ipad does not appear to be synced to dropbox

Could you please upload the following snapshots:

  1. The folder in Windows where you keep your Scrivener projects, so we can see complete DropBox path.
  2. The iOS Scrivener Projects screen. This will show us which of your iOS projects are syncing with DropBox.
  3. The Dropbox Settings screen from iOS Scrivener settings. This will show us where iOS Scrivener syncs to in DropBox.

The above will hopefully tells us enough to solve this.

If the PC can’t see the project created on the iPad you either put it in the internal iPad area on your iPad and not in the Dropbox area, or your PC is not looking in the correct subfolder in your Dropbox folder.

If the iPad can’t see the project created on the PC you didn’t save the PC project in the Dropbox subfolder where your iPad Scrivener is looking for projects.

A detail: have you updated to the latest versions of Scrivener on both machines?

Has anyone found a solution? I am not seeing one posted here…

The OP hasn’t responded to requests for more information, so it’s hard to say what might be going on.

Generally speaking, the most common causes of complete failure to sync are (in no particular order):

  • Wrong version of Scrivener on the Mac or PC. (Or, less commonly, on the iOS device.)

  • Dropbox not installed or not working on the Mac or PC.

  • Poor internet connection on either side.

  • Project not located in the appropriate directory/not located in the Dropbox area on the iOS device.

The first troubleshooting step is generally to create a test project and watch as it syncs first to the Dropbox server, then to the iOS device, then back to the server and to the Mac or PC. Once you’ve found which link in the chain fails, identifying the underlying issue is usually straightforward.
