Can anyone recommend a decent outliner or mind mapper for Mac, up to system 104.11? Freeware, preferably, or at least cheap.
iThoughtsX for Mac, which works together with iThoughts for iOS, is my favourite mind mapping software, but when I want a more free form alternative I use Scapple.
Scapple doesn’t run on anything prior to 10.6, unfortunately; I doubt iThoughts does, either. If you want something simple, Opal is based on the old Mac classic, Acta. If you want pure outlining with no bells and whistles, that should do it. There isn’t much out there, unfortunately. This is a niche genre to begin with, and given how difficult it is to create Tiger compatible software these days, the notables such as OmniOutliner and NEO are all absent.
On the other hand, you can still run Classic software, maybe go back to one of the original gems, MORE. That’s something we with our newer Macs can’t do without an emulator.
That’s great, folks, many thanks. I did find a mindmapper that works on my machine, called Freemind, so will try that. Mind you, when it comes to outlining in general I’m not a big one for that, though my newest novel has a one page outline and main character descriptions. I found even that much helped me to lock story compotents together without thinking as I write as I do normally.
Thanks for the help, everyone.
