On Create New Doc, Place Cursor in New Doc

I want the cursor to go to typing position upon creating a new doc. I tend to create a bunch of snippets for new sections or paragraphs, as discrete docs. I also enable “automatically name untitled documents upon saving,” which auto-populates the doc title in the binder. This makes it easy to arrange the docs/ideas before merging/developing them. Now, I discovered the shortcut CTRL-TAB, which does move the cursor to the desired position (CTRL-n, CTRL-TAB)—while I was in the process of writing this very wish/request . . . . I still wish, however, that an option were available so that I could press CTRL-n and have a new doc, untitled, with cursor ready to type in the doc itself. It would save some time in the long run. Thx, k

Thanks! This is something that will be improved on both platforms in the future. I’m working with a prototype build right now that makes it possible to continue writing perpetually in the main editors while cutting to new sections on the fly.

It seems like cmd-K is just waiting for this new functionality!

Perhaps. But if you’re splitting, Opt-Cmd-K (or Shift-Ctrl) can already be used to bypass the naming routine in the Binder. In the current version, it is also possible sidestep naming by using Scrivenings mode, but note there are some glitches in the Windows build that keep this from being truly effective. Focus gets lost for whatever reason, so you still have to end up clicking somewhere or using Ctrl-Tab, but at least the session is retained and modified to contain the new/split documents now.

Confused. Opt-cmd-K does not currently do anything at the end of a document either (assuming you have not selected some end-text) and so doesn’t do what the OP was looking for.

The Document/Split/with Selection as Title command doesn’t require you to name the item in the Binder, since the selection is used for the title (so it would be natural for the command to fail if nothing is selected), thus you can avoid bouncing back and forth between the Binder and Editor if you type and select your title for the next piece and then split (which can be just a dot or a space until you have something better).

But yes, I do agree it isn’t exactly what the OP was looking for, as I say that particular aspect will be improved in the future.

Ah, got it. Thanks.
