One Scene Has Wrong Formatting

All my scenes are formatted correctly except one.

For that one, there is no paragraph indent, and there is a blank line between paragraphs.

“Compile as is” is not checked.

Please tell me where to look to fix this.

Thanks,

Al

Load the document in the editor and turn on Format > Options > Show Invisibles to check that you have the proper carriage return before the paragraph rather than a set of new line feeds. The former will have the pilcrow symbol, the latter a bent arrow pointing down and left.

Also here make sure you don’t have any of the text in question marked Preserve Formatting, which would prevent the compile formatting override. Preserve Formatting appears usually as a dashed box around the text with a light blue background.

Thanks for the help.

Checked both of those things, and that’s not the problem.

The scene has seven paragraphs.

Paragraph 1 is okay.
Paragraphs 2-5 are not indented, and there is a blank line before them.
Paragraph 6 is okay.
Paragraph 7 is not indented, and there is a blank line before it.

You can see it here:

It’s the scene that starts midpage.

Here it is in Scrivener:

Note that the same problem is seen if I compile to a word doc.

I could fix it by copying and making a new scene and pasting, but I don’t want this to happen again.

Thanks,

Al

It’s hard to tell much from the screenshots. It does look like the spacing between the first two paragraphs and the second to last two paragraphs (starting “If” and “She”) is different from the others. What if you select one of those paragraphs with the proper spacing and use Format > Text > Copy Ruler, then Paste Ruler onto the other paragraphs?

I’ve had a couple of times where a subdocument in a folder was inexplicably getting its own header in compiling, and it was always because I had a blank line at the beginning of the document that I hadn’t put into the “Body” style. Deleting the graph or applying the style solved it. Not sure why this matters, but maybe it will help you. Good luck.
