Only syncs from Desktop to IOS, not from IOS to Desktop

I have synced with Scrivener successfully for years back and forth from my Mac to my iPhone. . . Now all of the sudden the changes I make on my iPhone do not sync to the desktop. I have every reason to think that the basic solutions – making sure that the dropbox accounts are correct, making sure that they are synced – are not the issue because changes I make on the Desktop ARE synced successfully to my iPhone. Additionally I have tried clearing the dropbox cache in order to try to force it to resync everything, and this has not accomplished anything. I have seen some “conflict” docs show up – but they don’t include any of the new information I added to my iPhone.

Any suggestions? I just made a lot of changes on my phone while traveling and hate to have to copy it over one by one, but obviously can do that if need be.

Welcome to the forum!

Do any of these specific suggestions help at all?

Unfortunately, no. I found that FAQ and went through all of those before posting my question!

To make sure your changes are safe, backup your iPhone before you do anything else:

Then, on the iPhone, create a new test project in the Dropbox section. Synchronize, then use a browser to visit your account at Dropbox.com. Is the test project there?
That will tell you whether the issue is between your phone and the Dropbox server, or between the Dropbox server and the Mac.

  1. When I created a new test copy of a Scrivener project on my cell phone it both synced correctly to Dropbox and created a new project that I could access via my computer. However, when I then went back to look at it on my phone – and yes, I did sync, and made sure it was up to date on dropbox, etc.-- it said that the same test project was invalid and didn’t have the correct root structure.

  2. Back to referring to my original project: It seems to be all syncing to the right place as any changes I make on the project on my computer DO get updated on my phone. It’s only changes in the opposite direction that aren’t synced.

  3. I am considering doing a good backup and reinstalling all the apps on computer and phone – that’s one thing I haven’t done yet.

I’m going to pause on giving a recommendation for how to resolve this … but I will say that re-installing app is normally a last-resort and may not fix anything. Doing backups can’t hurt a thing.

best to figure out the root cause. Just seems it’s a Dropbox issue and perhaps a way to reset/re-create the project in Dropbox. I’m not at my computer to test how to do that. Perhaps other people here have a suggestion.

Yeah, the reinstalling didn’t help with anything. . . .Everything still WORKS, so that’s good, but every test I create only syncs one way.

It’s hard for me to figure out in my head what could have changed, as it used to work. Anyway, if anyone has any brilliant ideas, I’d take them! I appreciate it!

And in the meantime, I will also try to recreate the project in Dropbox. I did try that once before – but early on and not super methodically, so it’s worth a try to do really carefully.

On the Mac, ensure that Dropbox is configured to make your projects available offline:
