Open scrivx files on iphone

Hi, I write on macOS and IOS (ipad pro). Syncing between them is seamless. This morning I wanted to open scrivener on iPhone, so I installed a it fresh from the appstore. When I tried to open a scrivx file, it gave the error that it needs to be in XML.
So why can I open an scrivx file on ipad with no problem but not on iPhone?
How can I remedy this?

thanx

How are you transferring the project?

A Scrivener project has the .scriv extension, and is a folder under the covers. The .scrivx file is the master file used to build the Binder: it is not a complete project in itself.

If all you have on the iPhone is the .scrivx file, something is wrong.

I was looking for a project to open in my dropbox folder. If I write on my mac and sync with dropbox, I can open it on my ipad and vice versa. It was that dropboxfolder that I searched and found my projects. Is my incoherent blabbering somewhat cohesive?

Did you follow exactly these instructions?

Scrivener on iOS communicates directly with the Dropbox server. You don’t go by way of your Dropbox app, nor otherwise hand pick and feed scriv files to the Scriv app. You tell the Scriv app what dropbox folder your scriv projects are in and /it/ goes and looks on the dropbox server to see what’s there.

This works the same on iPadOS, but (as you say) it is so seamless, you have probably long forgotten how you set that up!
