option to disable bounce on import

Hi there, I’m new to Scrivener. Great program, wish I’d been using it since the beginning of my phd. I have a v.minor feature request - could a preference setting be added to the ‘Import/Export’ to disable the dock icon bounce upon file importing? I find it slightly distracting and not especially valuable.

I’m not sure what you mean here - the Dock shouldn’t bounce during regular import. Do you mean when you drag items onto the Dock item? If so, no, there’s no way to disable this, sorry; it’s handled at the OS level, not by Scrivener. OS X bounces the Dock icon to show that something has happened to the app while it is inactive.

All the best,
Keith

I didn’t mean dragging onto the dock icon. It bounces even when dragging text from another (adjacent) app window (DEVONthink Pro in this case) into Scrivener. But I suppose in that case Scrivener still counts as an inactive app, even if the window is visible. So you’re right - thanks!

Ah, I see what you mean now. I’m so used to it I no longer even noticed it until you drew my attention to it. The reason it happens, I now realise, is because Scrivener puts up a progress panel when it imports stuff, and in so doing so, this tells OS X that that the app needs user attention (because it is what is known as a “modal” panel, which are often used for alerts), even though in this case no attention is needed. But this is why OS X bounces the Dock. Anyway, with a little searching and digging, I’ve found a way to suppress the bounce in this situation in the next update - now that you’ve pointed it out, it was starting to annoy me.

All the best,
Keith

ah - apologies for creating an unnecessary itch. and thanks for investigating so speedily; a week in and I already feel like becoming a Scrivener evangelist!
