Option to switch off unnecessary backup

Sometimes I open a project to check something, and I don’t make any changes. But I still get a backup when I close the project, which can be a small problem. It I do that three times, and I have the thing set to keep three backups, then they all end up being identical.

I’d like it if Scrivener didn’t back up on close unless it needed to. It would be nice to have a sub-option under “Back up on Project Close” that says, basically, “Do not back up if no changes have been made”. That way I know that my backups represent a history of real changes.

I believe that’s a known bug, in fact. It should already be doing what you want, without any options (I can’t think of any scenario where one would want a backup that is identical to the prior backup). If the changes you make are not significant (i.e. you can click around and read stuff without making any changes) then no backup should be generated.
