Paper (APA) Format template does not support compile margin comments

Hi,
when using the Scrivener Paper (APA) template and wanting to compile (to any type) with comments showing up in the margins, the option “export comments and annotations as” does not show up in the compilation settings pane.
It also doesn’t show up when I duplicate the APA template to edit it, instead of editing the template directly.
The option to compile comments in margins does show in new, blank projects.

I’ve googled and searched this forum, unsuccessfully.

Is this a bug? Or am I missing something?
Thank you!

This has to do with the compatibility settings, which you should see as an additional item in the compile format editor when you’ve chosen RTF, DOC or DOCX as the file format at the top in that pane. In order to compile footnotes gathered together on the “Footnotes” page, as the APA template does by default, they must be flattened into the text, and the setting for this will also affect your comments. For end-of-page footnotes, and word-processor recognized comments, you can deselect this option (and also remove the “Footnotes” page from your project’s compiling documents):

  1. Double-click to edit (or duplicate and edit) the APA template
  2. Choose “RTF” from the popup file format at the top of the lefthand list
  3. Click Compatibility at the bottom
  4. Deselect Flatten footnotes and comments into regular text
  5. Select Footnotes & Comments
  6. Set the Export comments and annotations as option (should be Margin comments by default)
  7. Save (supplying a new format name at top if you wish) either to Project Formats, specific to the project, or My Formats if you want it readily available in future APA projects

That did it, thank you!
