Parts listed as Chapters in compile

Hi all,

My book is broken up into two parts, and when I compiled, it used to call those parts PART ONE and PART TWO. I was messing around with the other compile options, and must have hit something, and now when I compile it considers the Parts as chapters, as numbers them Chapter 1, etc, which throws off my entire numbering (what should be Chapter One is now Chapter Two, and so on).

Can anyone tell me how to get the parts to go back to being parts instead of chapters when I compile? Thanks a lot.

If you don’t have a bunch of customizations to the compile settings that you want to save, I’d suggest using the preset called “Paperback novel (with parts)”.

Thanks, but I have to send a standard manuscript format to my publisher, double spaced, courier, etc.

Does anyone know where the setting is to make the parts compile as parts and not chapters?

I suspect that your problem lies in the Compile -> Formatting pane. The Part sections and the Chapter sections need to be at different outline levels, and will have different Section Layout specifications. The preset Robert suggested, “Paperback Novel (with parts)” demonstrates how it’s done, and is worth a look even if you ultimately use the Standard Manuscript as your starting point.

The Formatting Pane is explained in more detail in Section 23.8 of the manual.

I’d suggest you start a new project from a template, choosing the Novel with Parts from the Fiction section. Then take a look at it’s compile settings (The Formatting pane that Katherine mentioned). You’ll see two different settings for folders (a Level 1 folder and a Level 2+ folder). Those are your Parts and Chapters levels, respectively.
