Please Help! A Patch has Bricked Scrivener!

I’m using a very old 1.9 version of Scrivener on Windows 7. Last night, I started the program for the first time in a year or so. A message box popped up to tell me to download a patch - something to do with Paddle - which I did.

Unfortunately, when the program re-opened there was another message saying: “Could not establish connection to the license server. Please try again.” I couldn’t get rid of this message, nor could I close Scrivener. I had to switch my computer off and on again.

Now that I’ve restarted my computer and started Scrivener, Scrivener is still frozen. I can’t do anything with it. I can’t close it, highlight text, minimize the screen. Nothing.

Please help. I’m stuck with Scrivener permanently open and unusable.
