Apologies - newbie here, but hoping someone can help me
When I open a new blank document and start writing in inspector mode the ruler is set just left of centre in the screen with effectively four or five ‘negative tabs’ that I do not need
To illustrate my screen typically shows with the cursor appearing under the zero
-5 . -4 . - 3 . -2 . -1 . 0 . 1 . 2 . 3 . …
How do I set the screen / default so that I am typing / composing from the left of the screen? I don’t need the ‘negative tabs’ and find the blank space to the left irritating
When you say ‘Inspector mode’, do you mean the normal editing setup you see when you open a project (Binder on the left, Editor in the middle, Inspector on the right)?
If that’s the case, then it sounds like you’ve have centred Fixed Width Editing turned on: this is the default and it basically centres the text in the available editing window by inserting dummy margins.
But if you want to change it to have text starting right at the left of the editing window (either with a fixed width or always filling the editor), go to Preferences > Appearance > Main Editor and either deselect Used Fixed Width Editor., or keep Fixed Width Editor selected and unselect ‘Center the Editor…’.
HTH.
Yay - many thanks - perfect solution; now sorted.
