"Pre-cursor" word count in addition to overall wor

Hi Kevin, would it be easy for you to stick in a “pre-cursor” word count on the line where you have the “Words: XXX Chars: XXX”?

For me it is always nice to know where in my text I am editing and I miss this feature. Do you know what I mean? MS Word has this and I found it very helpful. Something like this would be good:

Words: 1,000 (300) Chars 8,200 (2,400)

Yes, a feature like this would be great.

But – Dave: his name is Keith.

There are also those who call him Kieth.

Sorry: Kieth (hope he won’t hold it against me!)

Hey, you got me confused. I just checked: his name is Keith!

Oh my God!

Sorry, old joke.

A nice idea, although I can’t say that it will appear soon because 1.1 is around the corner and after that there won’t be any new features for a while. In the mean time you can select the text up to the cursor and use the ctrl-click menu to get a word count for the selection.

Thanks and all the best,
Keith

You know what? I realised that I could add this feature in a matter of minutes, so I have added it for the next update. It works like this: if there is no selection when you ctrl-click, the word and character count up to the current cursor point will be displayed in the contextual menu (if there is a selection, the word and character count of the selection is displayed, as before).

(Note that the reason it is in the menu and not live like Word’s is that making it live is rather intensive and slow things down - there is a reason that Word stops displaying a live word count after so many words. )

Best,
Keith (yep, Keith)

Fantastico!

Thanks Keith! That’s great to hear

(Sorry about Kevin - I’m used to replying to a KB on another board who is Kevin. Humble apologies).

With this feature you are really spoiling us.
