I’m new to this forum but have been using Scrivener for a while. I’m currently using the Mac version. One thing that bugs me but I cannot figure out how to change is that every time I make an edit, the page re-centers my cursor to the middle of my computer screen. It’s not a big deal, but I then have to search for where the cursor is.
Is there any way to disable this feature so that when I make a change, the screen stays in the same place?
Preferences will only affect the default setting for new documents, and/or when you enter composition mode, if I recall correctly (not at my Mac at the moment). To turn it off in an existing project, either use Format->Options->Typewriter Scrolling, or the associated keyboard shortcut if you’re in composition mode.
If that’s not the correct menu item on the Mac, use the Help menu’s search field to search for “typewriter” to find it.
Thanks! Going to the Format --> Options --> Typewriter Scrolling worked perfectly! I kept looking for a way to turn it off under the Preferences tab, but it wasn’t affecting my current project.
Typewriter Scrolling is not activated here, and yet when in Composition Mode, Scrivener behaves as if TS were activated. Is this a bug, or is there a setting that I am missing?
As Katherine says in the post above, the Typewriting scrolling setting is independent for Editor and Composition mode (i.e. you can have both in Typewriter Scrolling, either, or neither as you prefer), so you should be able just to toggle it on and off in Composition mode with the normal shortcut (cmd-ctl-T, I think).
You can set the default for both modes in Preferences, but it’s only a default and the ‘other’ state is just that shortcut away at any time in either mode.
