Is there any way to print the contents of a folder in outline view?
I have a folder that contains a number of text files—references and quotations to secondary material that I’ve been using in my research—that I’ve arranged in a certain order. I want to print out the contents of that folder so that I can see these files in order with their synopses, giving me an outline that I can refer to when I am away from my computer. Is there any way to do this?
As long as it’s in the Draft folder, use Compile Draft, choose the folder you want to print, set it only to include titles and synopses, and then click the “Print” button. This will be easier in 2.0.
I’m not sure this is of interest to anyone but when I export the compiled outline doc to Word, I want it to look the way it does on the Scrivener Screen — which it doesn’t.
I put my synopses into an outline format (I don’t think you can use Lists, unfortunately, to make it automatic). Then you can search-and-replace those • or - or 1, 2, 3’s with hard rights, hanging indents (ridiculously confusing in Word) or whatever to format the outline the way you want it. It’s a pain the first time, but if you’re going to print your outline repeatedly during a project, it might be worth it. Hope that helps someone. Or this post will inspire someone to tell me there’s a simpler way!
I may be having this conversation with myself by now—it wouldn’t be the first time. But I realized that the easiest way for me to print the Outline View is just to do a succession of screenshots using “Grab”. Easier than reformatting in Word. (Is that what everyone else has been doing all along?)
