Problem importing file from Word

Hi
I have just downloaded the trial version, completed the tutorial and attempted to import a file from word but I keep getting a “converter error” message on one particular file. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Ok, disregard guys. 1 out of the 4 times I tried seems to have imported properly.

Sorry you were having trouble! A couple things you can try if you run into this again:

  • If it’s a DOC or DOCX file, you can switch the import converters Scrivener uses. Go to Tools > Options, select Import/Export, then click the “Import Converters” button. Select the proper format from the drop-down on the left, and then the converter from the menu on the right. If you have Microsoft Word 2007, 2010, or 2013 installed, you’ll see an option to use that, and I would recommend it in this case.

  • You can also try resaving the file in Word (or OpenOffice, etc.) as an RTF file. RTF is Scrivener’s native format, so the conversion to import the file is much simpler and may avoid whatever error you’re getting.
