I keep getting this error over and over. All my text is gone and I can’t do anything - I can’t add folders, type, see any of my previous text. yes, I have a backup file and have gotten my text back (just emailed it to myself) but the program won’t allow me to close the windows or restart without a hard restart of the whole computer. :frowning: What’s happening?

I checked another project and it’s behaving the same way. I cannot add anything or edit - all the tools are grayed out and no cursor appears. Help!

Are your Scrivener projects located on a “cloud drive” (like iCloud Drive) or in a cloud-synced area of your harddrive (like your Dropbox folder)?

If so, you may have that cloud service set to store your files “remote only” — which literally removes your files from your hard drive — leaves little placeholders behind and then serves your files back to you on demand. Scrivener projects cannot function in this state — all the inner parts of your Scrivener project must really be present on your hardrive.

If this is your problem, you can fix it by locating your scrivener projects using the Finder and telling your cloud sync set up to keep those projects stored locally. (The syncing still happens, but those files are not removed from your harddrive.) Or if your project is sitting on your iCloud Drive, drag it to your harddrive to relocate it locally (make sure, in this case, you give it a moment to transfer all).

I am not savvy enough to read the error message stuff you posted, but the above is a problem that you might be encountering.

What version of Scrivener and what version of Mac OS, please?

A corrupted project should just refuse to open. It shouldn’t crash Scrivener unless you moved it while it was open or something like that. So there’s probably something else going on.

FIXED  It was the iCloud thing. Good to learn! I’ve made sure it’s saving to my computer and not to the iCloud.
