Problems downloading new version of Scrivener

I have Scrivener 1.6 for Windows. A new window has been popping up inviting me to download the latest version but when I attempt to do so, I get the following message:

Installation and Runtime location mismatch
Scrivener is not currently running from last installed location:

Runtime location: ‘C:\Program files (x86)\Scrivener\Scrivener.exe’
Installed location: ‘C:\Program files (x86)\Scrivener\Scrivener.exe’
(seriously the installed and runtime locations are identical)

It then asked me to install the update, uninstall other copies of Scrivener not at the installed path above, and restart Scrivener from there (from where?) and select help for updates.

Huh?
Would appreciate help.

Some folks have been having trouble updating from older versions of Scrivener. The easiest solution is just to download the latest version from the website and install it. Just click on the ‘Download Free Trail’ link on the website and run the .exe file. (you’ll probably have to re-enter you’re serial info so have that handy)

Yes, this is a bug that was in some of the older update installers. Downloading and running the regular installer from the site as suggested will update Scrivener and also fix the bug. You can install directly over your existing version of Scrivener.
