Problems importing PDF file into research folder

As the tutorial suggests I tried importing the PDF verson of the Scrivener user manual into the Research section of the binder. It was imported correctly but does not present the usual PDF controls (as was the case in the tutorial example) but normal editable text controls (as if it had been converted to an RTF file).

Can you suggest what I am doing wrong?

Thanks.

That’s a strange one, does this condition persist after you reload the software? If so could you post a screenshot? I just tried this myself with the USLetter version of the PDF and it dropped in as a normal PDF.

I have attached a screenshot as requested. To be clear:

  1. I saved the Scrivener manual as a PDF file
  2. In a separate project I imported the PDF (while the focus was in the Research section)
  3. I saved the project and closed it
  4. I reloaded the project and clicked on the PDF

As you see, I get normal text file controls at the top of the screen - as opposed to PDF controls including the option to fit the PDF page to the screen (the one I was looking for).

Okay, that Format Bar isn’t going to go away just because you are looking at a PDF. It’s not tied to any particular editor. Consider if you had a split open; PDF on the left and text on the right. It would be really distracting if that thing appeared and disappeared when you flipped between splits, resizing the interface and all. What you are missing are the header and footer bars. You probably just have them turned off? Alt-UpArrow and Alt-DownArrow toggle those. They are in the View/Layout/ sub-menu, if that is easier to remember.

Got it … thanks
I think we can close this thread
