Program does not start again if closed out

When I close Scrivener and attempt to reopen the program it starts up but stops responding before actually opening. I’ve updated Windows, restarted the laptop, and completely uninstalled and reinstalled Scrivener without improvement.

Is this a recent issue on your PC? As in, have you been able to use Scrivener successfully on this PC before now? Or, are you just getting started with Scrivener and running into this after installing?

Assuming you’ve used Scrivener on the PC before now and it’s a new issue, I recommend reviewing your PC’s Windows Security settings, as well as the settings for any anti-virus, firewall, proxy, or VPN software your PC has installed.

We’ve had other users encounter issues with security tools blocking Scrivener or one of its components. Often, it comes up after a security tool updates in the background.

You might also reboot into Safe Mode with Networking and test how Scrivener behaves there. This Microsoft Support page has the steps for that.

Safe Mode limits tools like anti-virus programs, utilities, and other tools, so testing how Scrivener behaves with few other processes running could help determine if Scrivener can run correctly at all on this PC.
