I have a large Scrivener project that I have been working on for more than two years now, and this afternoon when I opened Scrivener, it showed – nothing. I tried double-clicking from the Finder, and opening it from Scrivener. I renamed it, moved it to another folder, checked permissions, transferred it to another computer. IN all these cases, double-clicking the file will open Scrivener but not the file: and the list of “recent” files in File=>Recent Projects doesn’t include it. It was last saved on Friday – a fact duly recorded in the file’s “info” pane. Any advice? I’m afraid I may just have lost a LOT of work.
Just read through some of the other posts in this forum, and it’s worth my saying that it’s only about a week’s worth of work lost – I backup regularly. The real question is: what makes the file act like it’s opening and yet not open?
When you say it showed nothing, do you mean that a window appeared but with lots of blank panes, or that nothing appeared at all? Is there an error getting reported on the Console when you try to open the project? (Open ~/Applications/Utilities/Console.app to view the console log.)
Have you disabled any fonts on your system? If certain fonts that are relied upon are disabled, the interface may not load properly (you can get blank panes and a “tried to insert nil” error on the console).
Thanks for the quick reply. Clicking on the project opens Scrivener, but not the project – i.e. Scrivener is open, but I see no windows (not even blank ones). There is no record in scrivener of my having tried to open the file, but when I look at the file in finder, it shows a record of my having opened it. When I search for words in Spotlight, it still finds them in the project, so it’s not destroyed, just not showing…
