Project replace is not working for content in the Footnotes panel. I can use the main search to locate the text within footnotes but cannot replace data. I want to make global rather than manual changes.
I cannot reproduce this. I create a simple blank project, added some junk text into the editor, and then added an Inspector Footnote and Comment, with the word “Watch” in each, as well as in the main text somewhere. Then I ran Edit/Find/Project Replace… with only the Text checkbox active in the lower section, and Ignore case and Whole words enabled in the top section. I then replaced “Watch” with “Distracting Toy” and everything updated, including in the Inspector pane.
Have you double-checked to make sure the replacement is working in the main text editor as well? Perhaps the settings are such that what you are searching for cannot be found.
Thanks for your attention. Project Replace works fine for main text. I tried tweaking a bit, and after trying 3 more times it worked for Footnotes as well. The document is long so for some reason Scriv didn’t pick up all instances.
Interesting, how long of a document are we talking about (both in terms of word count and number of sections), and roughly how many footnotes would you estimate are in the text? I’ll do some more testing at the proper scale and see if there is a problem from that angle. One other question: were there any similar characteristics between the footnotes that were not updating? For example: did they contain hyperlinks, had they been inserted years ago, or were they all new, etc. Also had the project been left open for a long period of time (greater than three days)?
Here are the stats: 85k words, 533k characters, 254 paperback, 201 printed. Lots of sections. Don’t know how to make Scriv count footnotes. Some of my LaTeX footnotes are hyperlinked, that may have been the problem. Some of them were inserted years ago, yes. I usually leave Scrivener open for many days in a row, much more than three. Tell me if this is advisable.
