Project Target Options [Session Definition]

I think it’s safe to say that Project Targets are essential to writing in Scrivener. One of the main parts of that window is the Session Target. So far in the Windows version, the session is defined as the duration Scrivener is open, meaning it resets upon exit.

While this may work fine for some, this is a hassle for me and I’m sure other users as well. I’m pretty sure most writers would prefer the session be defined as a day resetting at midnight.

Who wants to open a project for the 3rd time in a day and be greeted with Session Progress 0 for the third time? People who open and close Scrivener only once a day. The rest of us…NO.

Especially with NaNoWriMo around the corner, this feature is a must. (We all know the 1,667/day thing which most of us just up to 2,000/day to finish early.)

If you have the Mac version, you already have the ability to set a custom session duration but for Windows we are all left having to keep some kind of log using an exterior program and there is always a chance we could forget to record the word count before closing Scrivener.

I hope the options for this are added soon.

I don’t consider this feature to be in that pool of Mac features to be added “eventually”, I’d consider it among the top of priorities as far as interface and dialog updates.

That’s just me though. Unfortunately the next update will most likely be nothing but more language translations. (Cause we’ll all be bored of Scrivener translated to Sci-Fi)… really?

Well at least we can hope…i think.

This will come, but we can’t say when. Every user has a different feature from the Mac version that they feel is essential and should be a top priority, but of course we cannot add them all at once.

As for the sci-fi translation, I’m sorry you didn’t appreciate it, but that was just a bit of fun contributed by a user and not something the team spent valuable time on. Lee and Tiho continue to forge ahead with adding features to the Windows version.

My workaround for this is to create a new text document in the Scrivener binder that it outside the draft folder so it doesn’t affect the cumulative world total. Click the target icon in the footer bar for this document and type in your daily world goal. I denote new scenes with *** before first word of new scenes with no space.

For NaNoWriMo you can create a new document for each with a 2K target. When finished you can split into scenes.

Actually, I do appreciate it, it is kinda fun, but it’s like one of those things you turn on and go “cool” and then turn it off…

I can see where some writers such as the one who submitted it to you would get enjoyment from it, and that’s cool.

That is a great idea thanks!
