Really enjoying using Scr., but one issue is bugging me.
When I compile my manuscript, it’s coming out single spaced. I’ve set the spacing in the text files to double space, I’ve set the options in the compile dialogue boxes to double spaced… but it’s refusing!
Try exporting to RTF rather than .doc or .docx - it turns out the .doc and .docx exporters (which are provided by Apple) are buggy and don’t retain the line spacing. RTF is supported by all versions of Word and by most word processors, and in general is by far the best format to choose. Incidentally, if you export to .doc and choose to add a header or footer in the Text Options pane of Compile Draft, Scrivener will use RTF “under the hood” so that would work too.
I’m not finding RTF export to solve this problem. The file is still single spaced and the right margin disappears and the text runs off the page. Se attached.
Could you please provide more information? RTF definitely does solve this problem and double spacing and indents work fine in RTF, provided the word processor you open the file in fully supports RTF of course. What word processor is the screenshot from though? It could be a problem with the word processor’s RTF importer. Also, are your Compile settings definitely set for double-spacing?
Does the third tab in your compiler settings look anything like this?
The two key elements here are the override formatting option being turned on, and single-spacing in the formatting options used to override. If it looks like that, then it doesn’t matter what your source documents look like in the Binder, they will always be single-spaced. To retain original formatting, uncheck the override button, or set up double-spacing in the compiler formatting ruler.
