Reload file button not working <b18>

With an image loaded and selected, you get a clockwise, circular arrow in the bottom right(-ish) of the Scrivener window.
Clicking the button does nothing, as far as I can tell.

In the instance where the image is replaced with another image by the same name, clicking that button will cause the image to refresh in the editor.

You’re correct, but let me see if I understand this correctly:

An Add -> Existing File image is copied into \Files\Data<sectionID>\ and must be edited from there?
(Open in external editor)

If so, my mistake was believing the image to be linked and that it could be edited in its original location.
Thanks.

There are three ways to add images to your projects.

  1. You can import the image file directly into the research folder using File > Import > Files – this will create an image file directly into the binder as well as creating an image file in the correct windows folder. Viewing an image file imported in this way is what gives you the reload option at the bottom of the program

  2. You can insert an image from a file into an already existing document through Insert > Image From File. This will create a version of the image as part of your text document

  3. You can link to an external image file using Insert > Image Linked to File. This inserts the image into your document while still referring back to the external file. This is the option you want so that you can edit the original image file and have the results affect the Scrivener project

(4.) There is an option to Insert > Image Linked to Document - this will insert into a document an image that you already imported via step 1. It works like step 3 but the external file is the imported version from 1, and is located within the windows folders of the Scrivener project itself.

I hope this helps to clear things up for you. If not feel free to ask more questions!
