Hi. I’m now syncing Scrivener projects using Dropbox between my iMac and my Macbook Pro. Whilst working away from home, I have paused Dropbox from syncing (on my 3G/4G) to avoid the constant uploads during the auto save function. So, I’ve set Scriv to open and save to the Dropbox and backup on close to my local novel folio. Same on my iMac.
I believe that trying to get Scriv to hook into Dropbox to automatically resume syncing on closing might be too difficult, code wise. So, alternative proposal.
Can we have a message pop up just on closing that reminds you to un-pause Dropbox? Possibly you could have a setting in the general pane to switch this on or off.
Better still. How about a user configurable message, one that you could configure yourself to appear as a reminder when closing. This would allow you to set any type of reminder that you would like, not just Dropbox. Yay, brilliant!
What’dya think?
Best Regards from a Scrivener tragic.

I’m not aware of any way to detect what state Dropbox is in from another program entirely. By and large software is utterly ignorant of the existence Dropbox—the whole magic of that program is that it operates on normal files and folders, and thus anything that works with files and folders can make use of the technology without any special programming.
Meanwhile, I would say it’s an extremely good habit to get into checking the Dropbox status icon when you close Scrivener (and any other software that is working with files in that folder) anyway. You want to be watching that spinner so you can know when all of your changes have been safely uploaded to their server, and that it is safe to shut down or sleep the computer, so as to avoid generating conflicts. Since you’re going to be staring at it anyway, you’ll notice the little pause badge.
Sorry to hear there was a bit of a tragedy though, hope you got it sorted out.
