Remote editor workflow question

Need your ideas and advice …

I produce reports and newsletters in Scrivener. It helps keep my projects organized.

Each file is setup to sync to a Dropbox directory related to the project. I also periodically compile a master manuscript for reference and synopsis to post in that same directory.

While I do a lot of editing in Scrivener, each stepping through revision modes so I can see what was modified in each pass, I don’t have much of an idea what was changed in a sync’d file.

The Dropbox sync directory is on my iPad and Spotlight search. Often I’ll quickly update the sync copy from rather than opening the whole project. My updates happen on Windows, iPad, and via remote Editors. However, it is not clear who changed what.

I’ve tried “Track changes” in Word, that was a mess. Comments sometimes come back but they are inline and not easy to find. I’ve also tried everyone using different color ink, but that requires a lot of color selects.

The Dropbox sync is very useful because I’ll also print out a manuscript once or twice during a project to use for presentations – there will be a lot of hand editing done that is scanned in for my assistant to type into the sync files.

How are people working with remote editors? What steps are you taking to know who changed what? There are times I’d like to get a proof reader into Scrivener as a different user then have “Track changes” like annotations in the larger file.

I’ve already searched for collaboration on the forum, that’s got me this far.

Best,

Justin

I can’t help with the majority of your questions, but have you tried Edit->Find->Find by Formatting? You can use it to locate inline annotations, text color, character format (bold, italic, strikethrough, and/or underline), and other markup. Maybe that would help streamline your workflow?
