Request: let expired beta version launch the pop-up update window.

I greatly appreciate the frequent beta updates, but it is frustrating if you happen to miss one before the current version has expired. You are then required to visit the website, navigate to this forum, and manually download the latest version. And with each version having short expiration windows, this happens quite frequently.

Please allow expired beta versions of the app to launch the pop-up update window.

I have no connection with L&L, but will predict that this won’t happen. It would take time to add new functionality to the betas, when the small development team are finalising the release version. Manually downloading the latest version isn’t really a chore (the link is always in the same place, so you could bookmark it).

I’ve suggested the same for future Beta development efforts. I imagine it’s not trivial to isolate the update code from the rest of the program as it is to just display a dialogue box, but if they started new development efforts with the convenience of beta testers in mind, I think it’s be a win-win for everyone. After all, shouldn’t the updater code be tested too?

But for now, to avoid missing the window to use the update the program from its own interface, I’ve been putting the expiration date into my calendar with an alarm to check for updates using Scrivener itself that day.
