I would like to be able to go directly to a number of web pages from inside Scrivener. I am having trouble with the best way to do that.
I located some help on this in the Windows Beta forum but didn’t quite get everything I was looking for.
I am unsuccessful in opening a Web Page once it has been imported into the Research folder. The mht will not fulfill in any browser. I gather it must be a programming display issue. A reply to a beta post in November of 2017 suggested to create a bookmark and open the page in the Inspector.
Problem is, I’m having difficulty doing that also. Must be overlooking something simply. Stress from the day in general can do that . . .
First question, are you using the beta version? If so, it probably is best to seek help in the beta forum, since a lot of people in this forum are not.
If you’re not on the beta, then all I can say is that importing Web pages into Scrivener v. 1 . . . inhales. Deeply, strongly, and consistently. And has for quite awhile. So I’m guessing that’s where the problem may lie, to the extent that I’m understanding you correctly. If that is the issue, and since you want to view them in a browser anyway, it might be best just to paste the URLs as hyperlinks into your Scrivener Research folder docs.
For the last few moments I’ve trying to import a basic web page into the research folder. No such luck at all. So . . . is that what DavidR is talking about? Is the process of “importing PDF Document via Webkit, Internet Explorer, and/or Microsoft Office” completely blown apart?
My apologies for skipping over the very obvious header on your post!
So, yes, Web page importing has been so nonfunctional for so long in v. 1.9 that I’ve just given up even trying. My understanding is that, as the code framework on which Scrivener is built aged, Web coding options went around it, so that it no longer knows quite what to do with a lot of pages. Someone else here can answer in more technical (and accurate) terms, but that’s my layperson’s understanding. I also understand that Web page importing will be working right in v. 3.
I feel sorry for the Scrivener programmers at this stage of the ball game - Everyone is so excited about Windows v3. It must be hard for them to not let excitement deter them from their mission of double checking everything before release. That said – has there been anything seep through the cracks on how close they are to launching?
