Reuse or Symlink Text throughout Project Structure?

Greetings,

I’m relatively new to Scrivener 3 so I ask for your patience if this is a simple question.

I have a project structure in which certain introductory text is reused throughout the document. Instead of duplicating this text throughout the project and trying to manage any subsequent changes, I wonder if there is a way to “reuse” or “symlink” that text section throughout the project such that changes to the original will reflect in every other instance.

Right-clicking on the text section shows a “Copy Document Link” option, but I can’t figure out what to do with such a link. FYI, I’m not a programmer by any means; I live and die. by the GUI!

Thank you

The closest thing to something like this is the <$include> placeholder, which is documented in the user manual PDF under §10.1.5, Including Text From Other Documents, pg. 216.

If you create an item that consists of nothing other than that placeholder, set up as described, then it will work as a clone or duplicate of the original when compiling. You can also use this placeholder wherever you need, which can be handy if you have a common footnote or other snippet of text. I have a folder of such snippets that are included throughout the main body of the work, in some cases.

Thank you, Amber. I’ll be sure to read the PDF manual for more info.

In the meantime, if any developers are reading, please consider this a +1 for an intuitive GUI that enables this functionality. It seems it would be quite useful for long technical works and manuals that recycle text snippets.
