I have searched and just not found quite what I was looking for… but I would like to see right-click functionality similar to what you see in Word 2010 (or any Office product). The long drop down menus in Scrivener are cumbersome and require an awful lot of mousing and often it’s just that intuitive where you guys choose to place something–esp if there’s a sub menu. And the shortcut keys in Scrivener and in Mac in general are just kind of gymnastic-y. You have to hold down SO many keys at once–it’s hard to remember them all. In Word you can get more than half of the program’s functionality off the right-click, from right where you are in the program, including all the home ribbon, all the review features such as comments and track chances, all the styles, fonts, highlighting, color changes, tables, and MOST IMPORTANTLY: UNDO. If you’ve just made an error, why would you want to mouse to the top to get to undo? You want to fix it right where you are without losing your cursor position. I know you can do something + Z but no one even remembers that anymore in Windows because why? Anyway, having all that stuff on right click saves time and strain on the tendons.
ctrl-z == undo is the windows standard.
cmd-z == undo is the mac standard.
It has been that way from the beginning of both OS (that is going on 30 years).
I would rather hold down half a dozen keys than reach for my mouse one time when I am writing. Why? because moving my hands from the keyboard is very inefficient.
There is a list of the Mac shortcuts floating around the forum/wiki. I believe there is one for the windows version as well. Print them out with a 2 up format and keep them near your keyboard. Looking around I have sheets for vi/elvis, emacs, word, scriv, bash, and modern warfare. I have been doing this for over 20 years and still use printouts because each software has good reasons to do things their way.
I wonder if Microsoft would consider changing their shortcuts to match vi and menus to match elvis?
