I don’t get the warning with Scrivener, but I have just had it when I updated a version of the original Topaz Gigapixel AI which needs Rosetta 2. On the other hand, I have a separate installation of MultiMarkdown, which is presumably universal.

If that helps…

It depends on how you install it. I don’t think there is a universal build floating around (though we have made one for Scrivener). If you used Homebrew, it will select the right dedicated variant to install, and it seems (at least from my system) that this overrides any Rosetta dependencies that might have otherwise resulted from compiling with what is currently the Intel variant in the stable version of Scrivener.

The official installer on Github though appears to be Intel-only, and hasn’t been updated since 2023, which is a bit unfortunate.

I can’t remember the details of installing it, but it can’t have been through Homebrew. I installed it because a Markdown app (but I can’t remember which one) required it.

I installed it in June 2023; it is located in my Applications folder where I remember I had to drag it; it is a Unix Executable File of 647KB; apparently it hasn’t been opened since October 2024.

That’s all I can say about it, but through all my use of Scrivener under 26.3 upwards including 26.5 currently, I have never had that alert on Scrivener, but as I say it came up instantly on the original Topaz Gigapixel AI… I don’t know why I haven’t deleted that since I have the latest version!

Will Scrivener work with the new MacOS 27 coming out? I just read that apple isn’t going to support Rosetta because of not doing intel anymore. I was just wondering if that is going to mess up how it runs Scrivener. Please let me know.

From what I understand, Apple is going to drop support for Intel Macs, but Rosetta will still be supported until macOS 28. Which should give any developer, not just the L&L folks, plenty of time to adapt.

Or, as @November_Sierra said: Don’t worry 🙂

Scrivener is fully Silicon native and should not in fact require Rosetta at all. I believe the warnings that are coming up about Rosetta in relation to Scrivener are caused by Scrivener containing a MultiMarkdown submodule that is used purely for MultiMarkdown export, and it turns out that the submodule is Intel-only (I hadn’t realised this - I thought we had already purged everything that required Intel). I have fixed that for the next Scrivener update, so there shouldn’t be anything left in Scrivener that requires Rosetta going forward.

I just fired up the current release of Scrivener on the first macOS 27 beta and all works fine. 🙂

I’m getting a variety of Apple warnings that various Intel based software won’t run on my Silicon based computer when the next OS comes out.

At the moment I run Scrivener and Scapple across an older Intel laptop, a Win10 computer and a Mac Mini (Silicon). Are my L&L products going to be able to work/ work together as they do now when that change comes in?

For now, nothing will change. At some point, Apple will make it so that it is impossible to build Universal (Silicon + Intel apps), at which point versions of Scrivener from then on will cease to support Intel and will be Silicon-only. You will still be able to download older versions of Scrivener that support Intel from the [release notes page](https://www.literatureandlatte.com/scrivener/release-notes?os=macOS), though, which contains downloads to various older versions. The same will apply to Scapple.

Just a bit of additional info. I replaced my MacBook, and Scrivener was crashing repeatedly on trying to convert Markdown on import. I traced it to Rosetta not being installed. Installing it, rectified the problem. What pointed me there was this error:

chinstrap:~ % /Applications/Scrivener.app/Contents/Resources/MultiMarkdown/bin/multimarkdown

zsh: bad CPU type in executable: /Applications/Scrivener.app/Contents/Resources/MultiMarkdown/bin/multimarkdown

I have multimarkdown installed via Homebrew, but that didn’t prevent the problem.
