rtfi.exe

I’ve just downloaded the latest version of Scriv but now my virus software is picking up a file called rtfi.exe saying there would be a bug. Any idea what this is / what to do?

I am 100% positive this is a part of the official Scrivener distribution, so I wouldn’t be worried about it being a trojan or virus. I’m less positive of what it does, but I’m pretty sure that it is the “bridge” tool that can let you use an installed version of Microsoft Word or OpenOffice.org to handle document conversion rather than the built-in Scrivener converters. I’m basing that guess on the fact that in the past it has been a troubleshooting tip to delete that file if normal.dot gets stuck and tries to load every time Scrivener is loaded. This problem can now be avoided by a preference that switches off the bridge conversion—but given that the file is safe to delete and avoids the Word normal.dot problem, I bet that’s what it is.
