Save and Rebuild Search Indexes

Hello,

I have a fairly large project, with lots of images, that I am working on regularly. For some time now if I used the search/magnifier box Scrivener hung up, but I was not too worried and carried on working without it.
With 1.8 I tried it again, and it still hung up - so I started with a dummy project - and the search box worked. So it was something in my project.
Hunting in the manual I tried “Save and Rebuild Search Indexes”, thinking that that was the answer. The status bar got to 19%, hung up, and Scrivener shortly died thereafter.
I am not worried about my stuff, as it has all seemed to have been there for some time - but how do I rebuild the project so it is OK?

Many thanks, Chris Gold

Hello again.

After a good night’s sleep - problem solved.
I created a blank document and copied the major headings into it, one by one, checking I could search after each step. I could.
I found that the search became extremely slow for items with many large images. Before my rebuild I could type in the first letter and it would hang there until it timed out. It is still slow, sticking for a while on the first letter in the search box, but not bad - it is clear that images really slow the search down.

I presume the “Save and Rebuild Indexes” problem is similar, but I am not sure - it previously stuck at 19% until the system timed out. When I tested this on the rebuilt project it stuck on 24% for a while, but then finished.

Many thanks, Chris Gold
