This is just to say that, on the Mac ( I haven’t been able to try iOS or iPadOS to see what happens with Freeform) Freeform is no threat. It feels like Keynote without slides.
Scapple is much more capable and versatile.
Freeform (have looked but cannot try yet) appears to be a lot like the longstanding Notability app. The core functionality Scapple provides is nowhere in either if these apps as far as I can see.
