Scenes V index cards

I am new to Scrivener and find it difficult. I have looked at the longer tutorials as well as the 10 minute basic but while those follow a logical sequence they don’t help me when I am just using the software. I am on Windows using 8.1. I am using the screenwriting template. I can’t tell what the difference is between creating a scene and an index card. I seem to be creating both. Plus neither shows up on the corkboard when I switch to that view. If you know of a tutorial that would help, please advise. I thought that when I was in the draft mode and created new documents i.e. scenes the index cards were to be thought of as attached to the document as a synopsis or condensed view of the highlights. Thanks,

Have you started the built-in “Interactive Tutorial”? It’s found under Help, and is just a project that you read and interact with as directed to learn the major features of Scrivener. I think going through it would help you understand how the corkboard and other features work. Note that you can close it at any time after you start and re-open it later where you left off; no need to tackle the whole thing at once, as many people seem to believe they must.

Also check out the Quick Tour in the user manual PDF itself. One of the main topics it tackles is this whole concept of what “index cards” really are, how they are just a way of viewing a list of items in your Binder. It will walk you through a few exercises that show how to use the corkboard and text editor, and how cards and files are the same exact thing (think of cards more like fancy icons that you can write on, one for each line in your project Binder outline).
