Script Elements Menu (Pop-Up) not showing up

Hello, there!

I’m pretty new to Scrivener, but so far, I’m loving it.

I plan to use it to write game design documents, game narrative scripts, essays, tutorials, blog posts, and who knows what else. XD

I have just encountered two issues, one of which this thread is about:

I’ve been trying to open the Script Elements pop-up, following the instructions in the Scrivener manual (latest version of the software). The current keyboard shortcut is Ctrl+, yet when I try this shortcut, nothing happens, while, in contrast, every other shortcut I try, works. What I mean by “nothing happens,” is that nothing shows up. I don’t see anything change in the program’s interface.

I also tried changing this shortcut to a range of different available combinations, but the menu still doesn’t pop up.

Is there something I’m missing here?

Thank you in advance!

Hi, and welcome!

The shortcut will only apply when the document is in Script Mode, so first make sure that Format > Scriptwriting > Script Mode has a checkmark beside it–if it doesn’t, select that to switch the current document into script mode. The editor footer will change from showing the word and character count to displaying the current script element in the bottom right, and when the focus is in the editor, the Ctrl+\ shortcut should pop open the element menu in the footer. The document icon in the header and in the binder will also change to a light yellow with three black “hole punches” down the left side to indicate a script mode document.

I can’t believe I missed that! Thank you very much for the clarification.
