Scrivener beach balls on quit when backup

Hi! So Scrivener hangs/beach balls when I quit a certain project on my Mac. It only happens with this project so I’m assuming it’s an issue with the project. The backups work fine and Scrivener eventually quits, but what’s the best way for me to isolate this in the project and fix the issue? I don’t want to create a new project necessarily because I don’t want to lose my writing history.
I’m running Scrivener 3.2 (though this issue appeared on 3.1.5 as well) on macOS Big Sur.

How big is the project?

Does it perform normally when you’re actually editing it, rather than backing it up?

Currently it’s 357MB. It performs fine on use, it’s just on backup that it spins.

A 357 MB project will take some time to backup: Scrivener has to copy the entire project, and probably is compressing it as well.

If you’re backing up to a slower device, such as a USB stick, you might want to change that. But otherwise this sounds like normal behavior to me.

Thanks Katherine! Just wanted to make sure it was normal.
