Scrivener can't be updated if it's running from the location it was downloaded to

When I click on “check for updates” I get an error message that reads, “Scrivener can’t be updated if it’s running from the location it was downloaed to. Cancel Update.” I don’t understand what this means. Am I supposed to move Scrivener to some other location? Recommendations are welcome.

Assuming the Scrivener icon sits in your Dock:

Right-Click (or Ctrl-Click) on it → Options → Show in Finder

Where is it located? It should be in “Applications”.

I get the same message; but Scrivener IS in my Applications folder.

(The program works perfectly as is; I just want to update to the latest version. I currently have 3.3.4)

Should I move it somewhere else?
