Scrivener crashes and will not restart

Over a year ago I tried Scrivener but had problems getting the program to work and abandoned it. This morning I became excited about trying again with a book project. I started through the tutorial, but after about an hour I ran into what I believe is the same problem that caused me to give up the previous time. I had just called up an audio file when Scrivener froze and became unresponsive. I eventually shut it down in the Task Manager (I am using Windows 8.1), but after that I could not restart Scrivener. I would click on the Scrivener icon, my computer would think for a bit, and then nothing else would happen.

I searched around a bit in the Knowledge Base but couldn’t find any description of this problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Mark

I experienced “freezing” and stalls after installing the most recent Windows 10 update and am still having performance problems with the software suddenly sucking RAM at two and three times previous rates.

Navigating the Microsoft Technical Support website is maddening. What may be happening is a Scrivener file or application is still running in the background after the crash and if that is the case you can find it by scrolling down the open Processes window and then killing that one too.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the suggestion. Each I try to start Scrivener, it does create a background process visible in Task Manager, but killing all of these still doesn’t allow me to successfully start Scrivener again.

Sorry, I’ve no idea of the root cause of your original problem, but if you reboot your PC, then I am pretty sure Scrivener will launch again.
