Couldn’t agree with you more. I started writing before the PC age took off with notebooks and a typewriter. My first PC was a ‘286’ and was considered a Ferrari for its time.
I have used Scrivener on my iPad using a subscription with ‘GoToMyPC’ by Citrix by remoting into my PC from the coffee shop. It works with an Android tablet too. The catch is that your PC has to be left on and the Internet too.
I’m not well off, but I know what I need. I got the new Macbook specifically because it would help me finish my looong novel while travelling. Scrivener for IOS would have been cheaper, and I’ll certainly get it when it comes out, but, well, I think Scrivener is the killer app for the new Macbook (which, amusingly enough fits in my wee iPad case). End of rantoid.
There are actually several Mac apps and Windows programs that don’t have corresponding iOS or Android counterparts. People seem to forget that the iPhone was introduced only 8 years ago, and the iPad some years after that.
I like my iPad, am actually writing this on it. But that doesn’t mean I can’t get work done without it. To the contrary, at work I seldom use it.
So why the fuzz about the iOS version of Scrivener? Well, Keith happened to tell the truth, that they were working on it, and then people started sounding like children.
“When? I want it now! Why can’t I have it? I’ll scream if I don’t get it NOW!!”
The world is full of good software that is only available on this or that operating system, and on top of that there are all those apps and programs that no one has written yet. Life is here and now. Use what you have! Spend your energy on being creative instead of complaining about what doesn’t exist.
Obdurate, obscurantist obfuscating, off messaging, OS obsessing, and indeed, in some cases, odious individuals, will be with us always. Physiologically flawed like the rest of us … frustrated by our limitations, cripplingly envious of others’ achievements, assuaging our sense of inferiority by fabricating and accrediting behavioural oddness to those we seek to malign, in justification of our behaviour. To quote the prince, “Who would these fardels bear?” Why … L&L of course. But, what we can be assured of, is, that when Scriv iOS does arrive, it will be the best they can offer … not a crock of shite. Patience is a virtue that will be rewarded.
Sorry, but this doesn’t follow at all. All we know is that when it gets here, it gets here. There’s no guarantee of quality. It might be good, but it also might not be.
It WILL necessarily, by definition, be the best they can offer because it will be the only iOS version they can offer. Not necessarily the best anyone can offer, but most likely, as no one else can offer Scrivener.
Thirded. I know you may be reluctant to offer an ETA given your past history of doing so, but we promise not to stamp our feet if the date is missed, it would just be useful to know the current expectation.
Yes Tricia,
Love Scrivener. Big fan of the developers. Just excited. Scrivener for iOS arrives when it arrives. No pressure intended. I’m just interested in how software development works and enjoy the updates.
I think it’s pretty obvious that the L&L devs have been quiet because they’ve put all their efforts into having the iOS version of Scrivener ready in time to present it on-stage with the iPad Pro at its unveiling today.
