rms, why do you do backups on open instead of on close?
I think I’ll up my backup number. I’ll think about .zip files. It just seems like one more opportunity for something to go wrong.

Well, … my backups are there in case I want to go back a version abandoning all recent changes. I’m good at changing my mind. The current version of the project is already stored, and it’s backed up by my system backups. So I’m covered.
Actually, in my opinion Zip files are simpler and more secure. They are unlikely to be corrupted by anything. It’s all or nothing. Scrivener projects are LOTS of files–hundreds if not thousands for some projects. And a ZIP backup won’t be confused as being an active project as would be a backup in native form. It would be bad to accidentally open a backup Scrivener project thinking it’s active, or thinking by opening the backup directly from the backup folder is a way to restore a backup. Bad practice.
I backup my Scrivener Zip backups with the automated system backup procedures, also. That’s for disaster recovery. Disasters happen.
