I have Scrivener open for six to eight hours a day and mostly use the Scratch Pad feature to take down the bulk of my writing.
I can count on Scrivener freezing up and becoming unresponsive about three to four times a day. This has been happening for about the past several months now, and I’d like to find a way to resolve this issue.
Here’s what normally happens:
I’ll be typing in Scratch Pad, then notice that either what I’m typing isn’t showing up in Scratch Pad or I’ll have to tap a key several times before it ever shows up. Other times, no amount of work will get the letters to show up in Scratch Pad and instead I’ll end up controlling web pages in Safari with space bar and other key commands.
When this happens, the hot key commands will not dismiss Scratch Pad.
When I try to quit the app to restart it, Scratch Pad remains on my screen and will not disappear until I manually click the “X” in the top left corner.
Is this a known issue? Is there anything I can do to fix it?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.
How much RAM do you have? How much free disk space do you have?
I’ve got 8 GB RAM on-board, depending on the time of day I’ve got anywhere from 1 to 4 GB free.
I’ve also got 365 GB of free hard drive space, which seems like plenty.
Am I running out of RAM?
No, your Ram and disk space seem plentiful.
It would probably also help to know which version of Scrivener you are using (2.4.1 is the latest), which version of OS-X you are using, and whether you bought through the Mac App Store or directly from Lit&Latt.

Mark,
My apologies.
I’m running Scrivener 2.4.1 on OS 10.8.2.
I purchased it directly from Lit&Latt and have been using Scrivener before the days of the MAS.
I’ve only begun having problems with it over the past several months.
