Scrivener generated html to kindle experience?

I am a complete novice when it comes to this, but I converted to an .html and I have noticed a couple of things so far. The Scrivener generated .xhtml files seem to have the following things that some instructions on .html to ebook recommend against:

  • use “pt” for font sizes rather than “em”
  • not designate that smart quotes (curly) should be used, but when I open my file in the web browser smart quotes do show up so I’m not sure what’s going on here.

Are there parameters somewhere for which conventions/presets, what have you  , Scrivener uses when converting to xhtml?

I know that after I look at all this, the next step is opening it in Carpelibris or something like that. Any other tips on converting Scrivener generated .xhtml files to ebooks?

Thanks!

It would be best to use some sort of program designed to take one format and convert it to another, like Calibre. However, have you tried just exporting to .epub/.mobi from Scrivener itself? Unless you have a very demanding layout consideration that Scrivener’s system cannot address, it would be easier to just let Scrivener make the e-book.
