Hi AmberV you’re definitely onto something.
I did indeed used files from my Mac Local drive (cached to iCloud).
tonight I drafted a new document and imported 4 images from an external NVME drive.
The result…no issues at all.
thank you

Very interesting! Okay, well it’s worth giving it a few days to see if things stay stable.
One question, are you using the feature to link to the original image, rather than dragging into a text file? Or were these images dragging/importing directly into the binder rather than placed into text?
dragging into the text document… not linked
I’ve had this problem for about the last week where Scrivener (3.5.2) (macOS) keeps randomly crashing. It’ll stay open for a few minutes but then crash and it doesn’t matter whether it’s open in the background or not. It consistently happens everytime I open the application and I’m growing increasingly frustrated. I’ve attached the crash report if it’s any help.

I was curious. But I have no skills or knowledge about how to interpret Crash Logs. So since you kindly provided the crash report, I chose to test out Grok AI to see. I uploaded and requested the log be evaluated. See attached. Points to an issue with Apple macOS handling some graphics in your project. Might be correct. Might be an hallucination. Maybe of help. The attached suggests some steps you can take before getting L&L’s analysis.

I’ve merged your query with an existing bug report thread. The crash log you posted matches the type of crash that we are working on here. Please review the thread above for troubleshooting advice. I’d start with this post, as that is the most likely cause. At this point we think it has to do with the fairly low level Apple image loader stumbling when it tries to load an image it cannot immediately read—such as might happen if the image is cloud synced not downloaded to the system.
Above that is a longer troubleshooting checklist that is probably overkill.
I will take opportunity here to reiterate and also confirm that my system issues are completely resolved with caveat that I now always insert graphics from external locations.
e.g. not from the Mac or cloud.
Amber correctly pointed out that most of us cloud sync our system drive.
Give it a try… it definitely works for me.
