Hey everyone,
I’m very sorry, as I’m sure this topic has been covered, but I could not find it anywhere on these forums
I purchased Scrivener from Amazon a couple of months ago(around April, I believe). Last week, the MacBook I initially downloaded it onto completely died. It is dead beyond the point of affordable repair, so I bought a new MacBook instead (it would have been comparable to the cost of repair, and my MacBook was from 2008).
It was incredibly frustrating because I had not backed up any of the 300+ pages of two novels I was working on. Basically, a writer’s worst nightmare. I won’t be making that mistake again.
My question is: Do I need to purchase Scivener 2.0 again or can I use the same authorization code Amazon gave me if I install the software on my new MacBook Pro. I don’t get the computer until this afternoon, but I just wanted to find out what my options were.
I am totally fine with buying another copy of Scrivener 2.0, but just wanted to see if that is necessary.
Thank you and again I apologize if this topic is redundant.
If the hard drive did not fail (but something else did), you should be able to remove it from the old Mac and recover your data using a USB to SATA/IDE adapter. Something like this…
Note, however, that the Amazon authorization code won’t work. It’s essentially a single-use coupon for our store. You’ll need your actual Scrivener license key, which you would have generated using the authorization code back when you purchased the program.
