Hello, when I try to open Scrivener I get a message in German that I cannot translate well. I didn’t set Scrivener to the German language, so I have no idea why this is happening. Nor do I know how to get to my document. Help? I’ve attached an image here. Thanks.
Hi there,
it’s a conflict with permissions in your (sytem?) library.
try running disk utility, repairing the permissions on the HD Scrivener is installed on. If this doesn’t work, please post a screeshot of the text you get with »Anleitung anzeigen« (show instructions) and I’ll translate them for you.
Best.

Hi Jolanth,
Thanks so much. I ran Disk Utility’s First Aid and it didn’t find anything wrong. I tried opening the file again and got two pop up messages - one for creating a copy, which I did. Then I tried to click on “Anleitung anzeigen” - and nothing happens. I have to force quit Scrivener to get out of the program. Any other ideas?
This is weird. Have you updated from Scrivener 2 to Scrivener 3? Where did you download your version of Scrivener? Have you tried deleting Scrivener and downloading it from L&L again? Could you be running to copies of Scrivener at the same time?
The first panel »Kopiertes Projekt« warns you that your project has been copied while open (on another computer?) and the changes you make could affect the already opened project. Hence the recommendation to make a copy.
The second panel is the information that something’s not right with the permissions in your library.
Do you use several computers? If so, quit Scrivener on all computers and try again. Also, quit all versions of Scrivener running on one computer (e.g. v2 and v3) and try again. Hope this helps!
Hey Jolanth, so I was running just version 2.8! I deleted it and downloaded version 3. But I can’t use it with my version of OS X, so I need to upgrade my system. That may take me a couple of days to get to, but I suspect it will sort everything out. Thanks for your help!
Hi,
you could also try downloading Scrivener 2.9 here:
literatureandlatte.com/legacy-download
and see if that works, before taking the effort of updating your entire system. Good luck!
