First of all, I’m sorry if I’m not using exactly the right terms, but I’m using the application in French.
I’ve noticed that Scrivener has suddenly reduced the space between the footer divider line and the page number in my compiled PDF files. I haven’t changed any of the page or footer margin settings, but the page number now appears much closer to the divider than before.
Could this be related to a recent update or a change in how Scrivener handles footer spacing? I’d appreciate any guidance on how to restore the previous layout.
Please do not hesitate to tell me should you require any further information.
For those who might run into the same issue, I eventually found the solution.
It turned out that the problem came from the font I was using: its baseline was higher than most other fonts, which made the page number appear too close to the divider. I fixed it by lowering the baseline of that font using FontForge.
Here’s what I did:
I opened the font I wanted to adjust, selected all glyphs (⌘+A), then went to Element ▸ Transformations ▸ Transform (⌘+) and used Move → Vertical → −100 (this value can be adjusted depending on how much you want to lower the font).
Next, I changed the font name in Element ▸ Font Info (⌘+⇧+F), under both the General and TTF Names tabs, so that it would be recognised by the system as a completely separate font rather than a style variant of the original one. Then I generated the new font (⌘+⇧+G) and placed it directly in [User] ▸ Library ▸ Fonts for it to be automatically installed.
Finally, you may need to relaunch Scrivener after that step for the font to show up in the list. I kept the original font for the main text of my document but applied the modified one only to the footer in Scrivener’s compile settings.
