I write poetry and am having considerable difficulty syncing my documents between Scrivener and Simplenote.
I use paragraph breaks all the time: between lines (usually single-spaced), between stanzas, between parts. In my poetry, there aren’t really paragraphs, only lines and stanzas. Each line has a paragraph break, and there are empty lines with paragraph breaks between stanzas.
When I sync, I want the documents to look exactly the same, but it never happens. No matter how I check the blank line options, something always screws up. The biggest problem is importing from Simplenote. No matter which options I choose, empty blank lines between stanzas disappear. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to fix that.
I wish that the sync would simply preserve what I have in the exactly the same format in both documents.
I have given up and export the document to another file format (Pages for my iPad), which I use.
The Simplenote tool only has basic support for line spacing, so it’s not the best service if you use a lot of mixed paragraph spacing like that. It should detect if you are always putting an empty line between paragraphs, and respect that in both directions, but if you use four lines together, one empty line, four more lines, etc., it won’t work so well.
I would suggest trying the external folder sync tool. The Automatically convert plain text paragraph spacing option works in both directions. Since this tool works with regular files and folders, it can be flexibly integrated with various synchronisation services and editors that work with them.
