Scrivener to Kindle (publishing)

Hey all,
I am wrapping up a little ebook I have written on Scrivener and I am wondering if anyone could recommend the best way to move from scrivener to Kindle. I have limited experience with html.

thanks,
D

With the second generation Kindle, the method I recommend is PDF. You might have to play around with your compile settings a bit to get the right result, but with proper settings, the resulting PDF will look very nice and readable. The other nice thing about this method is that you can manage them yourself by plugging the Kindle into your computer with the supplied USB cable and dropping the PDFs into its “documents” folder. If you aren’t sure how to make a PDF from Scrivener, use 'File/Compile…" and once you have everything set up (you might want to create a saved preset for Kindle exports), click the Print button and then opt to Save as PDF from there. You can save directly to the Kindle from this dialogue and skip the step of dragging it in. Main downside here is that your PDF will not have a table of contents, so you will have to use the search feature to do large navigation jumps. For linear reading though, it looks great.

If you have a generation 1 Kindle: The best way to do this would probably be to use Compiler’s HTML export feature, and then send the resulting file to your Kindle’s e-mail address. Amazon will smooth out the result, convert it to their eBook format, and send the file to your Kindle in a few seconds. Downside here is that you have to pay a small fee every time you do this, so experimenting could run up a bill. You don’t need to know anything about HTML to do this, fortunately. Just generate the file and send it to Amazon, they’ll handle the rest.

MMD users have played with taking this even further, allowing such things as table of contents and cleaner output, here.
